How many bottles of wine for your event?
Guests, share who drink, moments of the day. The result by colour, rounded to the case of 6, with the safety margin and the budget at three levels. Nothing is asked of you to display it.
The model, so you can challenge it
These are the calculation rules caterers and wine shops use, written down in black and white. They are cautious without being generous. Unopened cases are not taken back: the page what to do with leftover wine says how to keep or give away what's left over.
| Assumption | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Glasses per 75 cl bottle | 6 | 12 cl per glass, 12 cl per flute. Poured more generously, count 5. |
| Drinks reception, cocktail party | 2 glasses in the 1st hour, then 1 / h | Thirst drops after the first hour. Two hours = three glasses = half a bottle. |
| Seated meal | 3 glasses / meal | One white, two reds. One bottle for two over the length of the dinner. |
| Dancing | 1 glass in the 1st hour, then ½ / h | Sparkling and rosé. People drink water after midnight, whatever they say. |
| Brunch | 1.5 glasses | Sparkling, rosé, a little white. The morning after is sober. |
| Share who drink wine | 80% | Children, drivers, pregnant women, non-drinkers. A family reunion goes down to 70%. |
| Safety margin | +8% standing, +10% seated | Then rounded up to the next case of 6. Tight on purpose: unopened cases are not taken back. |

How many bottles of wine per person?
For a full day with drinks reception, meal and party, count about one bottle per guest, all colours combined. For a meal only, one bottle for two. For a two-hour cocktail reception, one bottle for three. The calculator above adds up the moments you tick.
What split between red, white, rosé and sparkling?
At a meal, two thirds red and one third white. At a reception, half sparkling, the rest shared between white and rosé. At the party, sparkling and rosé only. These splits are preset by occasion on the dedicated pages, for example wedding, drinks reception or corporate event.
And the budget?
The calculator's table gives three Bordeaux price levels for 2026: decent, good, grand cru. The wine budget per person page explains what each level actually buys and where to put the money when it's tight.
What happens when I click “Get a price”?
You land on the quote request with the quantities filled in. Transvins, a wine merchant (négociant) in Bordeaux, replies within 48 working hours with named wines and prices. Lead times and delivery charges are detailed on the delivery page.
