What makes a Montagne-Saint-Émilion
North of Saint-Émilion, on the other side of the Barbanne stream. Montagne is the largest of the four satellites, with Lussac, Puisseguin and Saint-Georges, which are allowed to add the name Saint-Émilion to their own. The same merlot, with cabernet franc, on clay and limestone slopes: round wines, ready sooner than those of the Médoc.

How long should you keep a Montagne-Saint-Émilion?
Two to ten years depending on the château, a little more in a great year. The table applies these rules to each line; it isn't a tasting note.
