The château
In the village of Margaux. The name comes from the Marquis de Terme, who brought the estate together in the 18th century. The Sénéclauze family has owned it since 1935.
Cabernet sauvignon and merlot, a little petit verdot. A fourth growth at a reasonable price, ready at around six years, that keeps for about twenty. The other châteaux of the appellation are on the Margaux wines page.
The 45 hectares are split between Margaux and Cantenac, on plots almost unchanged since 1855. The soils are deep gravel of quartz and quartzite, more clayey lower down, where the roots go down as far as six metres. The château sees this as the source of the graphite note in its wines. The château presents the 2015 (61% cabernet sauvignon, 33% merlot) as better than its 2009 and 2010. The 2017, after a harsh winter, ripened slowly through a summer that alternated sun, cloud and rain; it blends 62% cabernet sauvignon and 32% merlot.

When should you drink a Marquis de Terme?
