Gift · birth · one château per letter
A birth gift box in the baby's name: one Bordeaux château per letter
S, A, L, M, A: five letters, five bottles, and a case that spells the child's name. It gets opened bottle by bottle, at eighteen, at twenty-five, at the wedding. Type the name: the tool suggests a château for each letter, says which will keep eighteen years, and what the whole thing costs.
Putting the box together
The châteaux suggested are those on Transvins's price list; vintages and availability are confirmed in the quote. A letter with no château (E, F, I, K, N, O, R, U, V, W, X, Z) is filled in at the quote stage or with the middle name.
The château alphabet
For each letter, the châteaux Transvins has on its price list, cheapest first. The first is the one the tool suggests; the others come in when the letter repeats (the two A's in Salma) or when the budget allows.
Armailhac and Yquem are filed under the letter you hear, without the “d'”. The other letters have great Bordeaux names (L'Évangile, Figeac, d'Issan, Kirwan, Nénin, Rauzan-Ségla, Vieux Château Certan) that Transvins doesn't have on its price list today: you can ask for them in the quote, with no guarantee of finding them.
Eighteen years in a case
The classified growths and great wines on the list keep eighteen years in a good year, and often much longer. Two exceptions, flagged in the tool: Joanin Bécot and Quinault l'Enclos, softer, to be opened at around fifteen years, or bought in magnum. The details of which families of wine keep, and storage, are on the page birth wine to keep 18 years.
- The year of birth, or a great year. The child's vintage is sold in bottle two years after the harvest: for a child born in 2026, in 2028. In the meantime, a box from a great year already in bottle (2016, 2019, 2020, 2022) can be delivered straight away. The vintage chart rates every year.
- A single vintage for the whole case. The bottles age at the same pace and can be compared with each other: a vertical of a name.
- A label on the case, not on the bottles. The name and the date written in marker on the wood or on a card stuck to it: the châteaux' labels stay intact, and so does the value.
How much does a baby name wine gift box cost?
It depends on the châteaux: €30 to €60 a bottle for the most affordable on the list, €60 to €200 for a classified growth, and much more for a first growth. A six-letter name in classified growths comes to around €400 to €1,200. The tool gives the range for the name typed; the exact price is set in the quote.
What do you do with a letter that has no château?
Three options: use the initial of the middle name, ask in the quote for a château starting with that letter (with no guarantee of finding one), or put a half bottle of Sauternes in its place, which keeps eighteen years without effort.
Which vintage for a child born in 2026?
The 2026 itself, in bottle from 2028: you have to wait two years to order it. If the gift has to be given now, a great recent year already in bottle, 2019, 2020 or 2022, will also keep eighteen years.
And for a very long name?
Beyond eight letters, the budget climbs fast. Take bottles for the letters and a single magnum for the initial, or stick to the first name. To give a single bottle, the birth gift page has other ideas.
