The château
South of the Pomerol plateau, towards Saint-Émilion, around an 18th-century chartreuse, one of the few real manor houses in the appellation, where the properties are mostly winegrowers' houses.
Mostly Merlot, Cabernet Franc. A supple, fragrant Pomerol, ready at around six years, which lasts about twenty. Pomerol has never had an official classification. There, a château's price says more about its reputation than any rank could: from twenty euros to several thousand for Pétrus. The appellation's other châteaux are on the Pomerol wines page.
The vineyard covers 17.5 hectares on the south-eastern edge of the plateau, on clay gravel topped up with sand, in more than 35 plots. It is planted with 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, farmed organically, and replanted at 9,200 vines per hectare. As for vintages, 2013 gave a small harvest, 20,000 bottles. 2014 owes its balance to excellent Cabernet Francs, 30% of the blend. 2016, after six very wet months followed by drought from July, was harvested late, in early October, and the château sees it as one of its greatest wines.
What to serve it with

Which vintage for which occasion
For client gifts, a Pomerol in a wooden case (year-end client gifts). For a festive meal, with poultry or lamb. For a birthday, the birth year, if the table has it (birth year vintage).
Is Beauregard classified?
Pomerol has no official classification. Several Bordeaux châteaux are called Beauregard: this one is in Pomerol, as the label says.
Pomerol or Saint-Émilion?
Two neighbouring Right Bank appellations, both Merlot-dominated. Saint-Émilion has a classification and more varied soils; Pomerol, smaller, has none, and its wines are often rounder.
When should you drink a Château Beauregard?
Allow six years before opening it and twenty years of good form, a little more in a great year, a little less in a weak year or in half bottles. The table applies this rule to each line; it is not a tasting note, and a badly stored bottle ages faster.
