My bottles to open this year

List the bottles in your cellar, even roughly: the tool sorts them into four groups, drink now, open this year, can be opened, keep. Come back next year and the dates will have moved on. The list stays in your browser; we don't see it.

Your list

For each bottle or each lot: the wine, its rank, the vintage, the format and the number. The windows are those of the when to open this bottle tool, for Bordeaux wines kept in the conditions you state.

Three rules for a cellar that gets drunk

  • Open what is declining first. A bottle on the decline won't recover; one that is for keeping loses nothing by waiting. The “drink now” column comes before the big occasions.
  • Taste one bottle per lot at the start of its window. Six bottles of the same wine? Open the first as soon as it is “showing”: you will know whether to hurry the others or forget them for three years.
  • Keep a stock that is ready to drink. A cellar made up only of wines for laying down pushes you to open too early. A few cases of vintages that are already mature protect the others. The vintage chart says which years are for drinking today.

An old bottle you have doubts about? Check its fill level before lining it up for a dinner. And to build a cellar that balances itself year after year, see building your cellar.

Where is my list saved?

In your browser's storage, on this device only. Nothing is sent to Transvins or to anyone else. If you clear your browser data or change device, the list disappears: print it or keep a copy.

How do I remember to come back?

The “remind me in January” button downloads a reminder for your calendar, on 10 January next year, with the link to this page. No sign-up, no email.

My wine isn't a Bordeaux; can I add it?

Yes, by choosing the family closest in style: a great red from the northern Rhône or Italy as a Left Bank red, a more supple wine as a Right Bank red. The dates remain an order of magnitude.

What if lots of bottles need drinking at the same time?

Organise a dinner or a tasting: several vintages of the same wine compare very well side by side. The organising a vertical tasting page works out the bottles, the glasses and the order of service.
